Another Episode of Chromatic Minds - A Synesthete Podcast, each episode I interview Synesthetes from all around the world who experience various of types of Synesthesia this time we have the lovely Gabrielle Hill whom experiences a very interesting combination of Auditory-visual synesthesia & Gustatory-Olfactory.
Auditory-visual synesthesia is more common than some other forms, with estimates suggesting it occurs in about 1 in 1,000 people, but prevalence can vary widely.
Gustatory-olfactory synesthesia is even rarer and specific prevalence rates are not well-documented, but it is considered to affect a small fraction of the population.
eople with synesthesia experience a blending of the senses, where stimulation of one sense involuntarily triggers perceptions in another. in Auditory-Visual Synesthesia Individuals might see colors, shapes, or even textures when they hear specific sounds or musical notes. For example, a particular note might evoke a bright yellow or a swirling pattern.
but in Gustatory-Olfactory Synesthesia in this case, tasting a certain food might evoke a specific smell. For instance, tasting chocolate could trigger the scent of vanilla, leading to a unique sensory experience that combines taste and smell.
Overall, these experiences can be quite vivid and often feel automatic and involuntary.
Many synesthetes report that their experiences enhance their perception of the world, making it richer and more colorful. However, some may find it distracting or overwhelming, especially in noisy environments.
